🌏 World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week | 18-24 November

This week, we’re highlighting the growing issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) – when bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites evolve to resist the medications that once treated them.

When infections become resistant, they can turn serious, even life-threatening. Raising awareness about AMR is crucial to protect our health and the effectiveness of treatments we rely on every day.

🦠 How Does AMR Happen?
1. Misuse of Antibiotics – Antibiotics don’t work on viruses like colds or fluand using them unnecessarily can drive resistance.
2. Not Finishing Courses – Stopping antibiotics too soon can leave bacteria behind, allowing them to adapt and become resistant.
3. Overuse in Healthcare and Agriculture – High antibiotic use in healthcare and farming can create resistance.
4. Poor Infection Control & Global Travel – Resistant bacteria spread quickly through poor infection control and travel.

🧼 How You Can Help:
• Only use antibiotics when prescribed.
• Complete the full course, even if you feel better.
• Don’t share antibiotics or use leftovers.
